    Hi all,

There's been someone who has joined the forum on what I believe is more than one occasion, filling out their profile with plausible info and posting enough to activate the PM facility but then acting suspiciously with other members.
The latest example claimed to be from Bedford RC in their profile but then told other members different stories when trying to sell them things.

We noticed that in one day, this individual had come on to the site via 20 different IP addresses, and not even from a reputable VPN provider but by what looked to be compromised devices of unsuspecting individuals.

All we can really say is that if someone is offering something that appears too good to be true, it probably is and suggest that you exercise caution. If in doubt, reach out and we'll look at some patterns behind the scenes.

All the best, and thanks for using the forum responsibly
    Neil

Thanks everyone for all your excellent advice, most helpful indeed - having deleted a load of posts in the For Sale forum I was able to post my new item, and have freed up loads of space🤙

We were coaching a school team with shooters who required glasses so I was looking for a cheap source of frames. I found the emails, from when I ordered from Bob last year, I got two pairs including postage which was $130 (that's under £100 for two pairs posted from the States!) They do look very simple but they sit near enough perfectly, its quite a clever layout, I use a "reading" lens in the left eye so I can see sights, screens, etc, and have a strip of masking tape on it as a blinder.
I took to the Junkers (also used by Malcolm Cooper) instantly after trying all the big makes, and these Jones ones are as good at a fifth of the price, they look flimsy but they are not, as well as .22 I shoot 7.62 NRA and 6 mmBR at 300 mts and I have a tendency to climb onto the sights and these not only take it but protect as well!
If you email Bob, he can do Paypal, I highly recommend these glasses and Bob is a very helpfull guy, as I did not do PayPal I sent him cash, he sent the frames before my payment would have reached him, which got here inside a week.
I got mine "glassed up by Stephen Hing at Shefford.

To anyone advertising frames in future it might be worth mentioning whether they are for pistol or rifle just in case the buyer doesn't know the seller etc!

If I remember correctly, the bubble attaches to the sight body NOT the tube that slides through the centre. I have never had any movement of the bubble when moving from 50 to 100 and back to 50yds.

After shooting at 50 yds and rotating the tube 180 degree to shoot at 100 yds I am always perfectly zeroed in the bull.

When turning the sight, you need to undo the fastening ring a number of turns to enable the tube part to slide rearwards so that it clears the locating lug, then simply re tighten the ring when it re engages the lug and then continue shooting bulls!

I quite often see posts where someone is looking for older Anschutz spare parts.

I would always suggest that a phone call to Arthur Harvey at Budleigh Farm would be worth the effort.

He has been at Budleigh Farm for about 30 years and an Anschutz dealer for that time although I would say that he is more likely to be able to help with wooden stocks than aluminium. He used to be a regular visitor to the factory at Ulm selecting rifles, barrels and parts and Dieter Anschutz is a personal friend.

His workshop is a bit like Fultons with loads of bits and pieces so if you are stuck for something give him a call.

The good book sayeth, 'Man cannot live by bread alone, he needs his nuts'.

When someone states, 'His life is hanging by a thread' I would ask, 'M5 or 2BA?'

When I was studying engineering at Cambridge, I always knew my learnings would become of use.

When I say Cambridge, Cambridge Street, Batley actually, Dewsbury and Batley Technical and Art College, but on a clear day you could see Cleckheaton.

Greenwing, don't worry .. it takes a lot to offend the masses here

User rating's been around longer and was a general "out of 5" rating you could give a member.
However, the reputation was introduced that allowed for other users to 'vote' on a members posts. All the members posts 'reputation votes' are then tallyed up and the overall reputation is what you see under your profile.

Not sure user ratings are used so much these days but the facility still exists for legacy reasons.

I think that the User rating is just based on the number of posts that you make whereas Reputation depends on your peers assessing your posts and marking them up or down by using the rating buttons in the bottom right hand corner of each post. So if someone posts some really useful tip then you can mark the post up and I guess that then features in your reputation.

As some of you may or may not have noticed, one of the newer features in the forum is the ability to promote/demote a user's reputation by click on the little green + or red - icons () at the bottom right hand corner of a post.

I noticed that members in some groups were able to use the feature and others not. All shooting members should now be able to use this feature, if not then please let me know.

    Thanks
    Neil
