    Server Time

I thought this was down to you to put right in the "My Controls" section to suit where you are etc and there is a GMT/summer time adjustment available.
  3. Let's hope nobody nicks or wants to recycle the butt plates which are used at the Scottish!

    2013 Tube

Sorry about not thinking about the rules - I was focussing on what I thought was an interesting technical point but it can't be interesting if its not allowed!

    2013 Tube

Tim I never thought to consider that so you may well be right but if so why should pistols be allowed and rifles not?

    2013 Tube

Now that tubes have been mentioned again, what is latest thinking on their effect on the bullet flight after leaving the muzzle. We know that they can be good for increasing the sight base and this helps those whose sight might not be what it used to be but that's not my query. The protagonists argument is to say that it provides a controlled protective environment which helps the bullet accurately on its way without external wind effect The antagonists would argue that the space beyond the muzzle is confined and the bullet will be affected by being bombarded by the gases and crud from the charge which it would be less susceptible to without a tube - which is I suppose why some prefer the hammerhead solution. Interestingly, now that I shoot air pistol and the same applies to some free pistols they argue that compensators are great because they either direct the exhaust and crud away from the rear of the bullet in free pistol or with air are useful to counteract the rise of the barrel if the surplus gas is directed upwards. So with pistol its great to avoid/reduce the effect of the gas and crud on the bullet and with a rifle and tube the opposite seems to apply. Surely only one of these can be right? Has anyone thought of designing a compensator like the SAM FP on a rifle to direct the gas and crud away from behind the bullet and see if its beneficial?

    2013 Tube

I have only ever heard that Anschutz short barreled target rifles were never as good as they were held out to be And no I haven't seen an extended front tube drop of the back of a lorry recently
  8. OK so its slightly offset sight blocks just to help get rid of cant not fully offset sight blocks to shoot with the "wrong" eye. We are assuming that the advice you have been given is right and that butt plate and cheek piece adjustments have already been tried. As I said earlier I thought MEC made some adjustable offset sights specifically for this but can't see them on their website - Mac any ideas? George has changed his email address and I can't get in touch with him
  9. I think it would be wise to clarify what you are looking for! Do you really mean off set sight blocks so you can shoot say right handed using your left eye or do you mean sight blocks that can be offset a bit in which case I think I rememebr George Nightingale using these at Bisley this year and they were made by MEC. He got in a pickle on one county shoot detail as he ran out of windage and altered them and then could not hit the target at all!

Haven't got a clue - you'll have to wait for Neil to comment. I assumed that you didn't see your own name and number of posts in the list but hadn't noticed that the the others were missiing!
  12. The important question to ask first is what, if any, connection does your scope have for attachment to a stand. If you have a camera tripod threaded recess then you have the potential to use anything with a camera thread on the stand. Some scopes have no connection method and so you have to resort to some sort of sleeve/clamp on the stand to hold the scope in place. If your scope is not up for replacement then you are limited to what you've got. I seem to remember that you bought a larger magnification lens for your scope body so I assume you intend keeping the current scope - has it got a tripod thread on it or not? If not then you might well be stuck with a Tucker type stand or similar with a sleev/clamp arrangement. If you have a tripod thread then you might find that there are possibilities with an aluminium based L shaped stand but yours is quite a heavy scope and the legs will need to be long enough to carry the weight! For fear of invoking any wrath about advertising I'd better send you a pm before mentioning any names
  13. Shooting is definitely an endurance sport that requires stamina and you should come off the firing point completely knackered if you've put the proper amount of effort and concentration into your performance! This was clearly lacking in Emma's friend who fell short by dropping his bolt, probably through a complete lack of concentration. More training is required I suggest including visualisation of the perfect performance
  14. The sun's gone down now so I'm on my home in a while and I'll raise a glass to Trev and Santa and of course Emma's friend and if I have too many I'll probably end up like Trev and start babbling on but hopefully not like Emma's friend who I'm now concerned might have a bend in his bolt that can't be straightened out, especially if he's on the stuff that Trev's on!
  15. Aren't you all enjoying it or are we starting to miss the target with this topic We wouldn't want to injure someone ('s feelings or modesty) Yes I did start it and it makes it fun - perhaps Neil ought to move the thread to Light Hearted! Try looking up the word BOLT in your Thesaurus - one of the verbs is very entertaining!
  16. I'm sure I can rustle up a bottle of wine - probably the next chance to see you will be at the NSRA air meeting in the New year
  17. Well Chris I think that's got to be the best yet! In future he should consider putting his bolt in a protective case when its not safely in the rifle, probably something rubber and then it might at least bounce when he drops it again!
  18. Everyone seems to have "shot their bolt" on this one as the thread seems to have died!
  19. I reckon he was off to his bolt hole but the bolt never made it that far
  20. You can edit your own posts using the EDIT button on the right hand side!
  21. Perhaps before Emma replies we could have a competition to speculate on this which could be quite amusing? The most basic answer could be that he keeps his bolt separate from the rifle for security, but in his pocket!!!, and locked himself out and was up the ladder trying to break back in to home when the bolt fell out
  22. I'm easy as I'm not technical provided whatever we have is user friendly so take the option that fits the above with what's easiest and cheapest for you in my view. As to charging, whilst I personally wouldn't mind subscribing, without knowing what small is, but I suspect that it will reduce the membership back to hard core contributors and lovers of this forum which isn't the only objective IMHO. Though we might get rid of some obvious cheapskates I wouldn't like to think that we put anyone off on grounds of cost! We don't want the NSRA to stop subscribing as we want them seeing the views expressed. So I am in favour of select advertising but IMHO it must be from smallbore target shooting specialists like Mac, Bedford Target Shooting Supplies, HPS, NSRA and the like. We have had some irrelevant contributors trying to force their latest irrelevant deals on us and that would detract from this specialised forum.
  23. It might help potential buyers to know what the new price is and why you are selling it after such little use?
  24. At Fonthill they set up a system with a pulley wheel at each end with a tight loop of string to connect the two pulley's. The FP end has a handle to turn the pulley to wind the traget out and back again - much cheaper than a specialised electric system although I have heard of an electric train set controller being used to drive a motor to do something similar
