neil Posted 19 July 2003 Share Posted 19 July 2003 Apologies but the datacentre was having problems and it's taken most of the day for them to sort it. Hopefully all is now resolved.
neil Posted 28 July 2003 Author Share Posted 28 July 2003 Last nights downtime was caused by some nasty people performing what is known as a DoS (Denial of Service) attack against the data centre where the servers are. This is basically an orchestrated attack where lots of computers are used to send massive amounts of "rubish' data towards the datacentre, thus remdering the centre pretty much useless and unable to serve our web pages Even worse is, it is very difficult to do anything to stop this from happening. Anyway, it's back in operation now and I can only apologise for the disruption. Regards, Neil
neil Posted 11 November 2003 Author Share Posted 11 November 2003 Apologies folks, but the datacentre had to perform an emergency swap out of vital routing components, hence the downtime. Thanks Neil

neil Posted 12 July 2004 Author Share Posted 12 July 2004 Sorry for yesterday's downtime folks, there was a migration at the datacentre which should now provide faster hosting. Apologies for the lack of advanced warning
Guest Posted 12 July 2004 Share Posted 12 July 2004 Apologies for the lack of advanced warning Well, since you were off getting some new silverware, we'll forgive you just this once
neil Posted 26 March 2005 Author Share Posted 26 March 2005 Sorry for the disruption to yesterday's service folks but some nice people decided to attack Level 3 (one of the backbone providers for our servers) with a DoS attack, rendering the data connection the internet useless. To stop this attack affecting all users the feed for Level3 has been pulled until they have the attack under control. This attack is now only affecting clients who's ISP's are coming in over the Level3 network. We hope Level3 will have the situation under control shortly and we will be able to reconnect the feed and resume normal services, again we can only apologise for the disruption this attack has caused to our services, including the forum
Pault Posted 17 April 2005 Share Posted 17 April 2005 Neil, the SLA's you are getting are poor by most commercial standards available. I guess they are very low cost and of course the non-fee paying membership of this forum appreciates this!! Paul
neil Posted 17 April 2005 Author Share Posted 17 April 2005 Paul, I wouldn't say very low cost, nor would I say its at the other end of the scale. I've worked in conjunction with some big companies providing services to even bigger clients and sometimes there are things that are just outwith your control, regardless of SLA's
neil Posted 19 April 2005 Author Share Posted 19 April 2005 We cannot put up with our current providers unreliability and we are currently sorting out a new data provider, so please bare with us over the next few days. Thanks Neil
neil Posted 2 July 2005 Author Share Posted 2 July 2005 Sorry for this morning's downtime folks - Two of our clients were running an old (vulnerable) version of the software MovableType on the server which was exploited bringing the server down. neil Posted 27 July 2005 Author Share Posted 27 July 2005 Planned downtime 28-29/07/2005 23:00-03:00 Folks, tomorrow night in the early hours of the morning there will be some maintenance on this server. The machine will need rebooted once and there is also a new hardware firewall being put in place. Although there is a 4hr slot allocatated, the server will likely be offline for approx 15mins during this time. Most of you will likely be asleep but just so you know Thanks Neil
