  1. Brian, Before you get medieval on the stock, could you drop the sling? This might increase the pressure on his left arm too much, but it ought to create a bit of clearance. I am presuming he already has the sling somewhere near his armpit. If you have the tools and skills, I've heard of the butt being shortened by cutting off a chunk in front of the buttplate clamp the reattaching the clamp.
  2. That's true of almost any stock not specifically marketed for Juniors, bar the most recent alu stocks. To play devil's advocate, is the butt length a failing, or are we using the rifle beyond Anschutz's design parameters?
  3. Simon, Do you have any idea if the cheekpuece would for a Gemini?
  4. Thank you. Good luck with the sale!
  5. Mark, If that's a true LH 1407, with the bolt on the left, not just a crossover/under handle, I'd love to see pics. The earliest production LH 54s I've seen were built on 1980-proofed 16xx barrel/actions with 18xx bolts and triggers.
  6. I was about to add that Nibbs doesn't cut the relief notch for the old bolt-mounted safety, but then there aren't any true LH 14xx actions.

Dave, I think the buttplate is an "armadillo" hook only. It's the older pattern found on 1970s to early '80s rifles. The "armadillo" buttplate is the 4760 fitted from 1984, and the basis of the G&E Return.
  8. If the G&E footprint is anything like a Bleiker footprint, an Anschutz 4890 adaptor needs a little work to fit (about 1cm off the front, and a shave at the side). I'd presume a Grunig Anschutz adaptor won't need this. An 18/19xx trigger does protrude further, but washers under the triggerguard do for me.
  9. Matthew It would help if you tell us what dovetail the foresight is: Anschutz Match 54 (14-18xx) Anschutz 1913, Walther etc. These aren't all identical. Also do you want an 18mm or 22mm foresight? If you have a full length barrel (26-27in) + an extension tube 22mm would be better. £200 might be a bit tight if you want a irises front and rear, and a rearsight that's not too old. Even the basic Anschhutz 6805 seems to be selling for £100+ used.
  10. If it's any use, I think the stock is one of A E Clarke's rather than an AI.
  11. Robin, It's possible a supplier offered them a deal on M6 fine, but gunscrews are not threaded all along, and Anschutz didn't simply go to B&Q.
  12. Anschutz may have expected to supply spare screws to their customers. But, back in 1954 odd threads weren't uncommon; Winchester, then a market leader in .22 target rifles, had their own in-house workshop just for non-standard screws. It's also possible that Anschutz expected the original screws to do, and for owners not to lose them or mash up the heads.
  13. Robin, All Match 54s, and cylindrical derivatives use the same M6×.75mm thread. Screw length is not so constant in my experience as stock dimensions have changed. 2013s are M5 I think, and Match 64s too.
  14. Robin, Unless the Mauser that was the Match 54s parent used a fine thread, my guess is that Anachutz wanted more thread engagement in their round action. The Mauser had a square base, perhaps less deep than a Finnish Lion but on that order, but Anschutz changed this to round, possibly to reduce machining with round bar stock. The bolt is offset in the receiver* to give the bolts more seating depth, so a fine thread would reinforce this. *Also necessitating the lugs be spaced at 120° rather than 180° (a feature Walther retained), to ensure enough depth for the left hand recess.
  15. Colin, 22mm. It screws into an existing tunnel rather than being a complete tunnel + base. The Centra Vario is the tunnel adjustable for internal and external ring diameter.
  16. BTS list twiddly things in their website, but these appear to be out of stock, and have been for months.

    Handstop

Thanks Phil, I expect it will, but I'll need to trim the plastic at the sides so want to be sure.

    Handstop

Hi Phil, A 4751 would do the trick. If you don't mind I'll check the fit with the club's 4751 tomorrow.

    Handstop

Evening all, I'm after a handstop to fit an older Anschutz rail, one that can be offset, or that has a bias to the left (like the Freeland or Jensen). Looks aren't important so long as it works. If it's a push-button swivel I'm not worried if that's missing. System Gemini stops won't fit sadly.
  20. The top screw is hidden beneath the buttplate, and the lower screw is below it, where the hook would attach. The new buttplate would make the butt slightly longer, so may well require adjustment of the handstop and/or sling.
  21. Roger, Do you know what sight radius it's for? Or if not, what's the number on the front?
