...I had to clear my cookies on my Mac, 'cos it got very confused and logged me out the moment I logged in...

You only need to clear the cookies for forum.stirton.com - you should be able to view the cookies and not have to delete every single one. On Firefox, you go to View->Options (I think... On Mac it's: Firefox->Preferences), click on the cookie tab, click on the 'view cookies' button, scroll down to the one for forum.stirton.com then hit delete - that will leave your other cookies alone.

Not sure about Internet Exploder - am away from my horrid (work) Windoze machine... I imagine it's something similar.

(No hint of Mac/browser bias obviously :D )

I had explained the easy way but if you don't want to clear all your cookies in Internet Explorer then ... (on Windows XP)

1) Open Windows Explorer

(Ensure hidden folders are shown - Tools -> Folder Options ...

Click on the "View" tab and enable "Show hidden files and folders")

2) Navigate your way to C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

3) Look for Cookie:<username>@forum.stirton.com and delete it.

OR do the easy option mention on page 3 ;)

Like the updated forum.

I feel justified now in the argument I had with the wife when I said "Hang the expense. What if we don't eat for a couple of days - send the man a £1, he's been working hard" Fully vindicated now!

Thanks and I hope it makes your task easier as well as giving the end users more.

  • 3 months later...

Folks, that's the forum upgraded to the latest version from 2.1.7 to 2.2.1.

What does that mean to me I hear you say ;)

http://community.ipslink.com/board/

- New Personal Profiles

- Rich Text Editor

- Buddy lists

You certainly should not find anything any worse and hopefully some of the minor bugs fixed :)

Guest JulianY
Neil,

Do any of the options have any facility for a spelling checker (either on-line or hooks to one already on the PC, e.g. Word)? It would help me (and I guess others as well) not only because I can't spell, but also because of poor typing and the very annoying trait of my keyboard to miss out the occasional keypress!

Clive

Take a look at the later version of the firefox browser, it has a spelling checker built in to it. Works for most things including this board www.firefox.com

UPDATE

Sorry Clive I just discovered that firefox has problems with the new board :( , if we get a fix and and answer oh how to solve it I will let let you know. Such a pity I really like the latest version

Julian,

What problems are you experiencing with Firefox?

Thanks

N

Hi Niel,

I sent you two emails this morning to forum-admin@stirton.com sorry if that was the wrong address, but hear is the gist of it;

On _both_ IE and Firefox

if you click the galleries button ion the top you get;

Fatal error: Class gallery_sql_queries: Cannot inherit from undefined

class db_driver in

/home/stirton/public_html/forum/sources/sql/mysql_gallery_queries.php

on line 18

If you go to a profile and click send message you get;

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in

/home/stirton/public_html/forum/sources/components_ucp/gallery.php on

line 50

anything to do with messaging give the Fatal error: Call to a member

function on a non-object in

/home/stirton/public_html/forum/sources/components_ucp/gallery.php on

line 50 error

For firefox only

my assistant pops up two windows - firefox only IE OK

my friends pop us nothing - firefox only IE OK

the content of the Topic,Post,Content, Friends tabs is missing -

firefox only IE OK

I tried to save you and effort and did a search on the invision forums but failed to turn up anything interesting other that people slagging off old version of firefox. You are more familiar with invision so you may have better luck

If I can be of any help don't hesitate to ask I am also a programmer ;)

Hi Julian,

Thanks for looking. I am aware of the above - all related to the gallery which I didn't receive the update to with the rest of the forum.

The new forum uses an upgraded security model hence why the older gallery software is failing to connect to the database ;)

Cheers

Neil
