Guest Posted 6 April 2006 Share Posted 6 April 2006 My father has recently been granted his FAC and is after a suitable cabinet. He is after 5 Gun cabinet prefably with intregral Ammo safe but not esential. rough guide price is circa £100 to £150 but will go higher if needed. On a similar matter a friend of mine also requires a British Standard cabinet. Should hold at least 4 guns , (30" barrel). Internal box prefably but not essential. Open to all offers. RobStubbs Posted 6 April 2006 Share Posted 6 April 2006 I'd be suprised if you can't find something new in that price range. Pick up a copy of gun mart and have a look through it. Rob.
Guest Bilbo Posted 6 April 2006 Share Posted 6 April 2006 Robs right, your price range should get you a new one. Take a look at Carp Trading on the net for Brattonsound cabinets, as their prices are pretty good, but they do take quite a long time over delivery, but they are despatched straight from the factory. G&C Engineering in Pershore, Worcs, do a neat 4/5 rifle cabinet without internal safe for just under £110 inc next day delivery. I have one myself and my dad had one delivered yesterday. Hope this is not considered advertizing. Target sports did a good article recently on the main players. Steve
mmacgill Posted 6 April 2006 Share Posted 6 April 2006 I'd recommend the G&C over a Brattonsound. I have a both makes installed at home and the G&C is a much better cabinet IMHO. I'm not too impressed with the build quality of the Brattonsounds nor the locks and, as mentioned, they took an age to arrive once ordered...

Guest Posted 9 April 2006 Share Posted 9 April 2006 those are 'JFC' gun cabinets ... are they any good, we are looking for something that can hold 20 guns, which doesnt exist in the uk, as far as i have seen. the 9 gun brattonsound is the biggest but is poorly designed which only leaves 4x6 gun cabinets. a pain for the amount of keys. does anyone know of a 20 gun cabinet which holds guns in a line not in depth and is under £500. i have been given several foreign contacts but they are all a lot more expensive compared to mulitple cabinets. cheers
Guest yardman9 Posted 10 April 2006 Share Posted 10 April 2006 All the cabinet manufacturers will make specials, if you can wait. You can contact a local engineering firm, ie., one that makes steel oil storage tanks or any firm that folds sheet metal. We have Lund Bros near us who make the steel cabinets for those temporary traffic lights you see at road works. JC

JC I suspect one off's will probably not be able to BS approved (?) - but that doesn't matter - as long as they are of the correct standard. I forgot to add they will also probably be more expensive than importing from abroad. Rob.
Guest Posted 10 April 2006 Share Posted 10 April 2006 thanks i asked the cabinet makers about a special one off and they said they couldnt do it. i also tried getting somebody to make one who spcialises in all things steel and he said because the chinease have been buying up all the steel the prices have gone sky high and you would be better just buying the manafactured ones. i looked at a european site i was recommended, all in german and the prices for large cabinets were very high. i still like the idea of getting one made again so will go back and see what he says this time. cheers

I have a couple of guys that spend all day welding up oil and coolant tanks, doing presswork etc ... we're always looking for areas to branch out into ... you might have to collect it from the midlands though ... steel prices have gone up .. but not that much .. like 20% in the last year .. but thats still only 400 pounds a tonne, a 20 gun cabinet in say, 3mm steel would only have about 100 quids worth of steel in it, tops, instead of about 85 quid a year ago ... hardly a prohibitive increase by any means. I think the police apply different criteria above a certain number of guns, and may require a higher than usual standard .. the simplest way may to be to buy a big old safe
